Bronze Statue of Athena, late 4th c. BC, Archaeological Museum of Piraeus, handmade in Greece.

Athena, according to Greek mythology, was the goddess of wisdom, the olive tree, strategy and war.

This is one of the most characteristic statues of the goddess Athena.

It is cast and kept in very good condition. The goddess is depicted in supernatural size (height 2.35 m.) With her well-known insignia.

He wears a long veil, the tip of which falls obliquely to the middle of the left thigh, while the back is lifted to the back. Its aegis passes diagonally through the chest and is decorated with a Medusa head in the center. In the lowered left hand, as shown by the position of the fingers, he would hold the shield and the spear, while in the right he held something that is not saved, maybe the glaucus or a Victory. On her head she wears a raised Corinthian helmet, decorated with glaucomas in the jaws and griffins at the top, left and right of the plume.

The work expresses the tendencies of sculpture in the late classical times and is attributed to the famous sculptor Euphranora. She was probably the model of the famous Athena Mattei, which is on display at the Louvre Museum.

The statue belongs to the so-called "treasure of Piraeus" along with three other bronze statues and other archaeological objects.

The treasure was discovered by chance in July 1959, due to sewerage works at the intersection of Vassileos Georgiou A and Filonos streets, behind the Tinaneios garden in Piraeus.

With raw material silver, bronze, copper and aluminum, we create works of art and make museum copies, with absolute respect for the detail and aesthetics of the original. Inspired by the timeless Greek art, we support and promote the cultural heritage and tradition of our country.

The combination of experience, well-trained craftsmen, selected raw materials, strict control in production and careful packaging, characterize the company's products for their consistently high quality. Athena has been cast using the traditional 'lost wax' method.

As nothing is mass-produced, there will inevitably be slight variations in patination and colouring. Each piece is, therefore, unique.
